This final webinar of the Land Dialogues 2022 series, will take place a couple of weeks after the UN Climate Change Conference COP 27 (6 – 18 November, Sharm El-Sheik). With a historic 1.7 billion dollar pledge having been made at last year’s COP26 by the Forest Tenure Funders Group to advance Indigenous Peoples’ and Local Communities’ tenure rights and their forest guardianship, it is important that we discuss  challenges and opportunities in the context of these important advancements. The  “Post COP27: Reflecting on Donor Promises to Forest Guardians” webinar will serve as a platform to reflect on progress made, what is falling short and if the 1.7 billion dollar pledge made during COP26 was reflected during COP27.

We know that donor support for Indigenous Peoples and local communities forest guardianship has been an important topic of debate and has been brought to the forefront in this past year.  The Forest Tenure Funders Group has spearheaded the IPLCs Forest Tenure Pledge, which is a commitment to mobilize greater and more effective donor support for forest communities. Being a group of 22 prevalent donors in the space, how are  they delivering on these promises? How are donors working together to deliver on this Pledge? how will the Pledge engage IPLCs and how will results be monitored? At the center of this dialogue our guests will discuss the need for greater funding for IPLC´s land and forest rights and management and making that funding more fit for purpose reflecting IPLCs cosmovisions.

Looking towards the future, the discussion will explore the top-line conversations at this COP27 that have been valuable to Indigenous communities and representatives present. What are the most important opportunities moving forward and how can donors support this? How do these new and emerging topics fit into the larger picture of land rights?
