In 2025, Tenure Facility was selected as a Finalist for The Earthshot Prize.

The Earthshot Prize—founded by HRH Prince William in 2020 and now considered one of the world’s most prestigious environmental awards—recognises bold, innovative solutions capable of delivering scalable impact for the planet.

Our selection as an Earthshot finalist is a recognition to the tireless efforts of our partners and all those in the tenure rights movement who are driving climate action on the ground. Our work is only possible because of their dedication, leadership and trust.

As a finalist and a member of the Earthshot network, we are committed to pushing our mission forward with even greater urgency.

We are both proud and deeply humbled to stand alongside so many visionary and transformative solutions in the Earthshot network, each demonstrating exceptional leadership on protecting our planet’s boundaries across countries and sectors.

In 2025 Tenure Facility acquired the Equivalence Determination on File certification.

This means the organisation was determined by NGOsource to be equivalent to a U.S. public charity or government instrumentality for funders.

In 2025 Tenure Facility was accredited by the Green Climate Fund. 

This milestone reflects both a long-standing belief and a deep commitment: that climate finance must reach those who have safeguarded the world’s forests for generations—Indigenous Peoples, Afrodescendant Peoples, and local communities.

This accreditation brings us closer to unlocking greater climate finance and ensuring that solutions are shaped and led by those who know how and are most capable of creating lasting impact.
